How do you use "seroquel" as a sleep aid? My doctor prescribed seroquel to help me get to sleep at night. All of the research I've done on the drug indicates that it's used to treat depression and other disorders. I've been taking one pill a night for the last three nights and it's not helping me sleep. The doctor said to give it time. . .

joesgirl3588 replied: "man I used to take seroquel for my anxiety that shit used to knock me out and the next morning it would make me just not care about anything it was cool but I started abusing it so I made my fiance throw them away I say just give it time like ure doctor says and if it doesnt work over time he'll either prescribe u more or change ure medication so just hang in there"

sab replied: "It has a sedating side effect. Take it 30 minutes before you go to bed. Your doc may want to increase the dosage if you are not falling asleep. Call your doc and let him/her know."

Can you use Seroquel and the nicotine patch at the same time? I'm thinking of using the Patch to quit smoking but I use Seroquel daily. Are there any contraindictions?

ashresty replied: "I think Seroquel is enough for you to quit smoking."

Seroquel??? Has anyone used seroquel for help get sleep? Did it work? Waht were the effects?

Miss Chinky replied: "I heard it was supposed to be helpful for sleep, but what was funny was that my Dr. had me prescribed on it during the day. No wonder why I used to fall asleep @ school!"

Leneki replied: "Yes, I used it before.First they had me on 50mgs, then 100mgs. The medication would dry my sinuses {hope I spelt that right}, all up and even dry my mouth up.So I couldnt breath out my nose, and if I breathed out my mouth I needed something beside me to drink all night because that was so dry.I liked seroquel at first, after so much got in my system it started having that dry effect on me. So I stopped taking them. Hope this info helps."

hpfanatic1130 replied: "yes it did work but be careful. about a few months later i got a bad reaction to it where i was shaking all over and couldnt stop the doctor said it was from a build up of the medicine but talk to ur doctor about this dont make any rash decisions on not to take it just talk to ur doctor and if u do take it be on the look out for tremors"

yp_lena_albuquerque replied: "One thing seroquel will help you sleep but that is not it's original usage it is mainly an antiphyscotic. So the side-effects are many. Try an actual sleep aid first like Ambien or Lunesta...."

dews024 replied: "seroquel does work..but like many sleep aids you can become dependent on it.. my doctor recommended Melationin which is a natural supplement that you can buy at any GNC or health/vitamin store.. it really does work and your body makes it naturally, you are just taking more and there are no side effects or anything"

valkyria replied: "Seroquel is the ONLY drug that will help me sleep. It took years of trying different drugs to make me sleep and stay asleep. It works wonders for me. If I have any side effects, I don't know it."

doug k replied: "I've take Seroquel for a little over 2 years now. I take 100 mg. and it puts me to sleep in about 30 minutes. If I take less or more, I wake up feeling groggy. 100 mg. is about right for me. I also need to get at least 6 or 7 hours of sleep or I will feel tired when I try to wake up"

rkilburn410 replied: "I take seroquel, it is anti psychotic, and I take it to help me control anger/rage, and it works very well for that, It has never made me sleepy and I do have a bit of a problem going to sleep. I do not to the best of my knowledge have any side affects , unless no anger/rage, that is totally under control and I am truly grateful"

linden_nut2005 replied: "Yeah, I have been on seroquel on and off for about two and a half years. It does help with sleep, but just be aware that each persons reaction to it is different. I found that I got dizzy spells throughout the day, and at times, had a hard time keeping my eyes open. I definitely recommend taking it about an hour or so before you're ready to go to bed, not in the morning like I had to. Good luck."

Is seroquel used for depression and bipolar? I asked a question earlier about Seroquel treating my depression and a few people told me that it wasn't used for that. Is that true?

kholt162 replied: "I've taken Seroquel for bipolar, I dont think it started out that way but alot of pre ions can be used to treat several things, if you have questions contact a pharmicist or contact your health care provider"

paroxetina replied: "It is definitely used in some people for depression. There are many "off-label" uses of drugs, meaning they are effective for things other than what the FDA states they are for."

Emma's Mommy replied: "I was on seroquel and it is an antipsychotic medication. I was suffering from depression and my doctor prescribed seroquel for me, which I tried to overdose on, so I am no longer on it anymore. But it did help."

Sandra M replied: "Seroquel is a mood stabilizer and if your doctor has only prescribed that then you need to tell them you need an anti-depressant too."

corperalsdaughter18 replied: "I have Bipolar and i used to use it but it wasn't good enough. Lithium is the best because it's a natural element on the periodic chart. There are some towns in America (one in Oregon for sure) that actually have it in their water supply. It's the safest medication, but you have to go to the doctor to get your thyroid checked about once a month. Blood levels too."

What are the off-label uses of Seroquel? Since i don't have bipolar, psychosis or schizophrenia.

Gabe replied: "i have no idea in hell why anyone on earth would want to take seroquel unless forced to in a psychiatric hospital as i was. That shit is horrible. Get ready to be sedated, urinate all over yourself, and gain only bout a million pounds."

Ernie replied: "Never had any experiences like that with seroquel to the first answerer. It is supposed to be a mood stabilizer and helps normalize brain chemicals"

Andy replied: "According to crazymeds.us here are some off label uses: # Anxiety. # Children with Tourette's disorder. # Autism. # Obsessive-Compulsive disorder (OCD) (augmenting an SSRI). # Alcoholism. # Treating tardive dysdinesia. # Treatment-resistant (refractory) major depressive disorder # Parkinson's Disease symptoms. # Insomnia"

What's the affect of grapefruit on Seroquel users? I use Seroquel to sleep and sometimes during the day to calm down. I read on the bottle "avoid eating or drinking grapefruit products with this medication." What does it do to you?

strongerwomane replied: "I take seroquel too for the same reasons and grapefruit increasesthe effect of it .It makes it go through youre system faster."

itscaramel replied: "grapefruit can cancel the effects of certain medicatons. they tell you not to take it with some antidepressants "Grapefruit juice blocks special enzymes in the wall of the small intestine that actually destroys many medications and prevents their absorption into the body. Thus, smaller amounts of the drugs get into the body than are ingested. When the action of this enzyme is blocked, more of the drugs get into the body and the blood levels of these medications increase. This can lead to toxic side effects from the medications.""

gracekelly3rd replied: "i take seoquel too but have never heard this b4. Cause of my brothers effect on me i had hardened up."

Anyone have trouble taking Seroquel with other medicines? I take 100 mg. of Seroquel at night and have noticed that if I take 2 Aleve tablets or my hormone pill at the same time, when I lay down, my legs feel like I have to move them. Also, it makes me feel anxious? Anyone else have problems mixing this medication with others at night? I have used seroquel for years.

joni replied: "i have a similiar problem when i take seroquel with any type of other meds, i get alot of physical anxiety where i can't lay still."

What medication can be used instead of Seroquel? I am experiencing side-effects of Seroquel and need an alternative medication. What can be used?

dbowser46970 replied: "I had the same problom and now I take Trezadone. Ask the person that prescribes this medication if you can try it out. It has very little side effects and helps a person sleep great."

hopefulmom replied: "You really NEED to see a doctor. There are alternatives but the doctor needs to prescribe them. There may be contra-indications with different medicines and the doctor will know the potential problems with the new medicine and what other medicines you are currently taking. If it is impulsivity you are trying to control or schizophrenia, you might want to ask your doctor if Abilify could help."

theresa4104 replied: "Yes, see a doctor- they know the best alternatives FOR YOU. sometimes drugs in the same class all tend to have similar side effects so it's not as easy as it seems. There are several other anti-psychotic medications you could use. Zyprexa, Risperdal (my miracle drug), abilify, geodon are all "atypical antipsychotics" the newer meds being used today. There are also older anti-psychotics such as haldol, thorazine, and compazine. check out"

Is seroquel used for earaches? I know someone who tells me he is taking seroquel for earaches. I thought seroquel was an anti phycotic. Is it used for other causes?

tainted_love_x3 replied: "No dear, seroquel is used for bipolar disorder. I know this from personal experience."

Raptor replied: "I did a brief search under Google for "Seroquel ear aches" and haven't found anything. But medicine is not an exact science, so it is possible that someone is taking Seroquel for ear aches (Otitis). Almost all medications have dual uses, and a doctor would know more than me. But do answer your question, it is possible."

ocpalmtree replied: "also a pain reliever but its dangerous tell your friend to look it up on the computer and see its side effects scary."

skanktale replied: "Seroquel is FDA approved for Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder. It is an antipsychotic. It is not for ear aches."
