fran j replied: "Try a 100% healthy diet, no fast food, no processed food, no soda only fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, only the best quality foods and plenty of water. No sugar, white flour, read labels."

smackaroodle replied: "Yes it will take care of ALL your acne no matter where it is. Yes it gets rid of blackheads and im not sure about the red marks. I think u have to go thru special treatment for that"

Does Accutane help with blackheads and large pores? I have had mild acne since teenager years and I long for beautiful smooth skin =( is accutane gonna help my condition?

Roxeanne replied: "Stay away from Accutane. Too many side effects to cope with. Many better alternatives out there ;-)"

Andrew D replied: "If your acne is only mild, and you only have blackheads and large pores, it may not be the solution for you. A doctor will likely recommend a different product for your skin, unless your skin is exceedingly oily. Accutane is normally reserved for cystic/nodular acne. Some of the most-recommended products for blackheads are pre ion retinoids (Retin-A, Tazorac, etc.). These increase cell turnover and prevent blackhead formation. Using these in combination with a newer medication called Nicomide-T (a topical medication made from B-vitamins, copper, and zinc) is a very effective combination for mild-to-moderate acne. The Nicomide-T also not only fights acne itself but also helps to reduce the irritation and redness sometimes caused by the retinoids. If your skin is very oily, Nicomide-T can also help with this. An excellent medication for oily/acne-prone skin is Clinac-BPO, a benzoyl peroxide medication that also contains a patented ingredient called Acrysorb, which is excellent at absorbing facial oil. Doctors and dermatologists are frequently willing to prescribe what you request if you state your reason for requesting it well. There are many pre ion options for acne now, and you may not need to resort to Accutane (even though it is definitely the correct choice for many patients)."

accutane: blackheads, whiteheads, and inflamed acne? is accutane helpful in eliminating blackheads, whiteheads, and inflamed acne? my forehead is red and I have mixed acne..blackheads, whiteheads, red spots with white stuff and just red bumps..any information pertaining to the subject would be very much appreciated. thank you

bigchucka replied: "Yeah, I was on it for 6 months, It'll heal them up, but you might still have some scarring unfortunately. I had practically open sores on chest/ both shoulders. You'll also have to have blood tests done to make sure it's not messing up your liver too bad. If a dermatologist told you Accutane, your case must be pretty serious, however. Don't know about now, but back in 96 it was the strongest thing they had. BTW, if you lift weights, you might have to stop cuz it acts on your body like steroids. Figured I'd let you know... but yeah, it should clear your skin up..."

harryb replied: "Sounds like you`re a perfect candidate for it. It worked for me."

Can Accutane get rid of blackheads? I just started taking Accutane, and I know that it gets rid of whiteheads and cystic (?) acne, but will it also get rid of my blackheads? If not, does anyone have any suggestions for them? Thanks!

Martha Evans replied: "Yes. I took it years ago and it got rid of almost all my acne. It came back later and I took a second course. It got a lot better, but never completely went away, but became much more managable and not as cystic. The blackheads went away and my skin became super clear for a while, but then a few years later when I was under a lot of stress, it got worse. Now I just use the Retin-A and Benzoyl Peroxide lotion. There are some youtube videos that people who took it made."

KBLINGHOLLA replied: "OMG.. yes.. I remember that part most clearly. I was on accutane from February 2007 to August 2007. Within about a month in the blackheads on my nose just DISAPPEARED!! I mean.. literally.. they ALL went away! I remember waking up one day and noticing I had none which I knew that only a week before I had a whole bunch. They stayed gone for about 6 months after August and this past February I noticed that I had blackheads again. Then in March I broke out a few times (I had broken out maybe once or twice since ending my course). In April I started breaking out more along my hairline and the edges of my face and now I am breaking out on my cheeks. Its nowhere as bad as before I took my first course but this is the same pattern that occured when I first started getting acne. I am making an appointment to go on accutane again."

ACCUTANe, blackheads, whiteheads?!? HELP? I am on accutane am have been getting terrible white and blackheads on my nose. I just pickes at them, my nose is all read and you can see my pores. HELP what can I do to reverse what I just did? =[

nurseozarkjj replied: "You might try microderm abrasion. It is used to repair damaged skin due to acne, sun damage, and fever blisters and cold sores. I had scars due to fever blisters and cold sores and used a microderm abrasion product and my face looks much better. I have a friend who used this for acne scars and it worked for her. Microderm abrasion kits are available at any health and beauty aid department and are very affordable. If you are taking Accutane, is your doctor checking your liver functions, a simple blood test? When taking this medication your liver should be monitored."

D replied: "Well if you just started accutane thats why you have been getting them. For the first 2-4 weeks your acne will worsten when on it. DONT PICK AT THEM THO! They will only stay longer and maybe even scar. I rather have a bad zit for a couple days then pick at it and have a scar there for the rest of my life."

happyme replied: "I too have been on accutane. It was the best treatment for me by far but unfortunately you have the most fragile brittle skin known to man. Its REALLY important not to pick at your pimples especially during this treatment. I had many scabs on my face from doing so and they healed but had minor scarring from it. have you been on accutane for long? Your acne is supposed to get worse before it gets better. Just hang in there. It's a long haul. I was on it for 5 months, the blood tests were a pain since being a female I had to go on a monthly basis. It will be all worth it in the end.. but in the meantime just use cold water compresses if try and quiet down any redness. If it gets much worse see if your dr might be able to prescribe a safe hydrocortisone cream for you. Do not use anything abrasive on your face or skin for that matter. It will only cause more damage"

jay1986 replied: "don't pick them. just keep taking the accutane, they will go away. does your nose feel rough, kind of like a strawberry or a cactus when you touch it with your finger? that is normal, it will only last a little while until the accutane fully kicks in."

Does accutane minimize the apperance of acne scars? I might have to end up taking accutane and I have mild acne. I have blackheads on my forehead mostly and red pimples and a noticeable acne scar. If I were to take accutane will the scar lessen its appearance and not be that noticable? I have friends that take it and their scars were not noticeable and I seen them before they were taking accutane. SO will it help with my scar and acne and blackheads, accutane?

Lax M replied: "Yes,It helps for fresh scars."

Shalini S replied: "Anything you want to discuss regarding the acne, and want to know a lot of thingsall your answers in this site."

MY SKIN ON ACCUTANE GETTING LOTS OF BLACKHEADS HELPPP!? i have been on accutane for just over 5 weeks now... i have noticed good changed in my skin but also bad..... i have been getting huge clusters of blackheads in places that i dont usually get and my chin is now covered in blackheads like never before! IS THISD NORMAL HELPPPP!

emerald replied: "Calm down. The accutane is doing good. Now, blackheads are easy to get rid of. You can get pads that clear them up immediately. Just go to a chemist."

sheidu5 replied: "stay with it . you're probably getting blackheads insted of pimples.pimples are usuall infected balckheads so it is getting better. I've seen it work miracles."

Howdy Y'all replied: "That is totally normal, your skin will get worse before it gets better. The most improvement will be seen after you complete the course of treatment, so don't worry if it's not all gone when you stop taking it. The doctor should have told you all that."

Gigi replied: "Stay with the course, this is normal. The way it works, is that your system shuts down all the oily glands throughout your body, then expels all that is left, and finally dries everything up. Don't touch the blackheads, leave them alone. good luck!"

Would Retin-A or Accutane help with blackheads? I used the lowest concentration of Retin-A (generic) and while it cleaned up my pimples, it did not prevent blackheads.

RR17 replied: "I think those are overkill for blackheads...."

The Un-Cola replied: "Maybe you should use a stronger Retin-A. There are alot of other acne medications avalible. Ask your doctor what else they recommend. Accutane is really only for people with severe cystic acne, not just black heads."

maxwellslittlesister replied: "Accutane works by slowing down the production of sebum (oil) in the skin. Apparently it works to the point of almost shutting down the sebum glands in some cases. Therefore, it would work for blackheads, which are just like whiteheads without the "infection" leading to the pus."

accutane? when will oil and blackheads to go away? anyone with experiences? pls i need help

Snowboarder replied: "accutane survivor here..haha none of my blackheads went away while on accutane for me at least and the oil starts going away after a few weeks your skin will get EXTREMELY dry and you will need to buy HEAVY INTENSIVE cream !! avoid the mistakes i made while on accutane i didn't put on intensive cream at night so i scratched myself at night and woke up with cuts all over my arms.. and try not to cut yourself or bruise yourself..because the cuts i got on accutane are all scarred now and won't go away.. i know you didn't ask for advice but i wish someone told me this LOTION LOTION LOTION CHAPSTICK CHAPSTICK CHAPSTICK i can't stress how important they are..."

can you get facials while on accutane? Since I got on accutane my blackheads are coming up to the surface and it looks disgusting. I want to get my face exfoliated and have it steam cleaned. Can i or can i not?

Tink replied: "Oh no darling - I assure you, you would regret it - your face will react real angrily to doing anything like that.... Accutane is making your skin shed real fast - which is why they are coming to the surface. Since I know you are going to probably do it anyways - if you have to use anything as a scrub, use aveeno powder (like for the baths) - its THE mildest exfoliant you can use - and the oatmeal will help to reduce the redness that you might cause. Still, I wouldn't do it. That stuff will work miracles - but you gotta be patient [I know, I know, thats the hard part]"

Andrew D replied: "Only if you want to make your face look very terrible. Accutane makes the skin very fragile and sensitive. Use some antibiotic cream (not ointment -- it's too greasy) and apply that to help soothe your skin and help temporarily help control the acne."
